This special conditions are issued for the CASA Model CN-235-100 airplane. This airplane will have novel or unusual design features associated with engine electronic controllers. The applicable airworthiness regulations do not contain adequate or appropriate safety standards for the protection of the engine electronic controllers from the effects of lightning and the susceptibility to external radio frequency (RF) energy sources. This notice contains the additional safety standards which the Administrator finds necessary to ensure that the critical and essential functions these controllers perform are maintained.
