These special conditions are issued to become part of the type certification basis for the Fairchild Aircraft Corporation Model SA227-AC airplanes incorporating Electronic Flight Instrument Systems (EFIS). These airplanes will have novel and unusual design features when compared to the state of technology envisaged in the airworthiness standards of Part 23 of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR). These novel and unusual design features include the use of an electronic flight instrument system for which the applicable regulations do not contain adequate or appropriate airworthiness standards. These special conditions contain the additional airworthiness standards which the Administrator considers necessary to establish a level of safety equivalent to that provided by the airworthiness standards applicable to the Fairchild Aircraft Corporation Model SA227-AC airplanes.
