About

South African Airways (SAA) is the flag carrier airline of South Africa, founded in 1934. Headquartered in Airways Park at O. R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, it operates a hub-and-spoke network, serving ten destinations in Africa. SAA joined Star Alliance in April 2006, becoming the first African carrier in a major airline alliance. The airline underwent voluntary business rescue in December 2019 due to financial losses and suspended operations in 2020. In June 2021, the government announced a partnership with the Takatso Consortium, granting it a 51% stake.
