The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) was formed in 2002 to represent the state's liquid renewable fuels industry. IRFA brings together Iowa ethanol and biodiesel producers to foster the development and growth of the state's biofuels industry through education, promotion, and infrastructure development. IRFA is committed to maintaining Iowa's leadership in renewable fuels and value-added co-products production. Iowa is number one in the nation for biofuels production, with 42 ethanol plants capable of producing 4.5 billion gallons annually, including 34 million gallons of annual cellulosic ethanol production capacity, and 11 biodiesel plants with the capacity to produce 410 million gal
