On September 7, 2018, about 1933 coordinated universal time a Yakovlev Aircraft YAK-9UM airplane, VH-YIX, impacted terrain during a local flight that departed from the Latrobe Valley Airport, Victoria, Australia. The pilot in command was fatally injured, and the airplane sustained substantial damage. The personal flight was owned and operated by a private individual and operated under the pertinent civil regulations of the government of Australia. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB). This report is for information purposes only and contains only information released by the ATSB.
