On May 12, 2005, an Alitalia McDonnell Douglas MD-82, experienced a loss of power from the left engine, a Pratt & Whitney JT8D-217C, about two minutes after takeoff from the Leonardo da Vinci Airport, Rome, Italy. The pilots shutdown the engine, declared an emergency, and returned to Rome for an uneventful single -engine landing. The investigation of this incident is under the jurisdiction of the Agnezia nazionale per la Sicurezza del Volo (ANSV). This report is for infomrational purposes only and contains information that was released by or obtained from the Government of Italy.
