Aircraft models
2,018 model families covering 274,522 aircraft, from the Cessna 172 to a single farm's drone fleet. The FAA records each version separately (172M, 172N, 172S); here they are grouped the way people say them, with the versions listed on each page.

How the grouping works
The FAA's register spells the same aircraft many ways: Cessna, Cessna Aircraft Co and Textron Aviation all built the 172; the model itself appears as 172, 172M, 172N and so on. A model family here is one maker's design line, found by taking the model name up to its first number (172, PA-28, SR22, EMB-145) and merging the maker's spellings. Everyday names (Skyhawk, Cherokee, Bonanza) are added for the best-known families. Only families with five or more aircraft on the register have a page; the others are still searchable aircraft by aircraft.
